Although plants had been supporting her journey all along, Maya’s (she/her) real journey with plants began after living in the US for a long time and being disconnected from her maternal roots. One day as she became aware of the disconnect, she began to feel a strong pull to the rituals and the traditional ways of life her grandfather lived and taught her years ago in Japan.
She intuitively knew that it was by reconnecting with tradition and nature in the way her ancestors knew how was the way to fill that space that was feeling so empty inside her. She knew in her core, that it was a deep, authentic connection not just with nature but with ancestors and with creator and the true meaning of who we are as human beings, that her heart was so yearning a connection with, and that was where she could find true healing as well. It was this yearning that led her right to the plant kingdom, and today she feels that is precisely why plants are here with us, to guide to us to live the most authentic versions of ourselves.
It is her passion to share about the magical power of plants to anyone who has the desires to take a deep dive and surrender to their guidance. Her experience tells her that plants can give us healing from all the unnecessities placed on us by the societal, cultural, ancestral rules, allow a glimpse of what it's like to return to the feeling that everything is how it should be, and help us remember that every moment is sacred in this life.
Today she is a clinical herbalist, reiki practitioner, and flower essence practitioner, small batch botanical distiller working as Rooted Things, weaving ancient healing frameworks such as Ayurveda, TCM, Alchemy, Aromatherapy, and various Energy Healing modalities as well as what she learned from her own connections to plants with the modern and scientific understanding of herbs and health to guide her community in their own individual healing journey.
