About this Speaker
Melanie (she/her) is blessed to live her life surrounded by plants. She lives in the trees in Southern Oregon up the mountain from her micro flower farm (also food, seed, grape, and cactus farm). She hopes the way she moves in the world becomes more and more like the flowers. As a flower grower and florist, she delights in cultivating flowers and playing with them in design work. Her business, Waterleaf Farm, helps awaken people to their deeper connection with the plants, to mother earth, and to themselves. In her u-pick and ceremonial workshops on the farm, participants are invited to celebrate life and live in tune with seasonal rhythms. Through her own journey of intuition she deepens her relationship with nature and guides others to trust their capacities to feel union with plants.
Melanie is an lifelong "nature apprentice", beginning in her hometown Portland, Oregon with lots of outdoor time. In a Graduate Program studying "Learning in Ecology and Culture" the multi-sensory garden education inspired her to start an organic vegetable farm. Walking barefoot on the nourishing earth, planting seeds and watching the miracle of their emergence, and then the blessing of harvesting them to eat, felt incredibly healing and joyful. She fell in love with so many plants and loved to cook and share farm veggies with friends, volunteers, CSA and restaurants. Feeling the earth's sentience and farming in connection with Nature called her to open to more, and she dove into her spiritual path. She began studying herbalism, plant spirit medicine and other healing modalities. Flowers took center stage as they guided her to transition to flower farming. She is in awe of how the flowers have an incredibly open energy as they express their beautiful authentic selves.
Melanie also loves to dance, to sing, to be with her cat, her partner, her community, and pray and heal in the Daime Church. She loves her big family in Portland. She is by nature very active, doesn’t stop moving, yet also has learned to love the quiet, receptive, yin mode which is so needed to receive the the guidance from within our hearts and from our plant friends.
